Meet Julie

Certified counsellor and psychotherapist

Why have I chosen Oak Tree as the name for my practice?

Two reasons...

  1. Oak tree's have historically represented both, strength and resiliance. As a counsellor I work with my clients to develop their strength and resilience so they can achieve their individual goals and objectives.

  2. The oak tree is the central element of the Flanagan family crest, this is something I am deeply connected to. Connections are an important element in our lives, I work with clients to assist them identify and draw on connections that benefit and sustain them.

Hi my name is Julie Flanagan I am a counsellor/psychotherapist who is passionate about helping clients work through their personal challenges. I help clients clarify their issues, support them to develop strategies and increase their self-awareness. I work with client’s experiencing relationship difficulties, lifecycle changes and family dysfunction. I also work with clients with mental health issues such as, depression and anxiety. I have a special interest in parenting, women’s health and postnatal depression.

My counselling approach is the culmination of professional skills and life experiences. I use a number of different modalities depending on the client’s presentation and individual needs.

I understand that deciding to seek counselling can be challenging and I acknowledge that clients may be vulnerable. To help alleviate client fears I provide a safe, empathetic and non-judgmental space. I fundamentally believe that for clients to get the most out of their sessions the quality of the client-counsellor relationship is imperative and as such I strive to make this the priority.
